Champion’s Commitment to Sustainability Through Planting 1.6 Million Trees

Happy Arbor Day! As we celebrate all things trees on April 25, we’re highlighting our partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation™ to plant one tree for every tree used in our building process.

Through our work with the Arbor Day Foundation, we’ve has planted more than 1.6 million trees in the U.S. and Canada since 2021. Forest products are the largest raw material used in the construction of a home, and we’ve taken exciting steps to balance our use through 44 strategic reforestation projects in the last four years.

We’re proud of the large-scale impact we’ve had through these projects serving communities across North America:

  • 1.6 million trees planted

  • 3,000 acres restored

  • 3,500 tons of air pollutants removed – enough oxygen for 6 million people for one day

  • 750,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide sequestered – equivalent to 160,000 fewer cars on the road for one year

  • 93 million gallons avoided water runoff – enough water for 1 million people for one day

These large-scale tree planting efforts are designed to reach areas where our homes are built and delivered, including communities impacted by fires and hurricanes. This map from the Arbor Day Foundation shows where we’ve planted trees, spanning 17 U.S. states and one Canadian province from coast to coast:

Out of our 44 reforestation projects, 42 are complete and two are in progress. Our current tree-planting projects are:

More Trees for School Forests. In Michigan, 10,000 red pine and white oak trees are being planted in 10 school forests impacted by invasive species. The project, which will restore 41 acres, is scheduled to be completed later in 2025.

California National Forests and Placerville Nursery. At California’s only Forest Service tree nursery, 33,000 douglas fir trees are being planted. The baby trees will later be planted in forests to help recovery from recent wildfires.

Not only are we working to restore forests across North America, but we are also committed to sustainable practices for our homes. Two of our most exciting updates are the launch of EcoWise™ homes and expanded availability of ENERGY STAR® Certified homes at 40 of our manufacturing facilities.

EcoWise™ Homes

In March, we were thrilled to launch EcoWise™, an upgrade of high-performance enhancements that make a manufactured home so energy efficient, a renewable energy system could offset most or all the home's annual energy use.

Showcasing our most energy efficient designs to date, EcoWise™ homes meet or exceed the federal government's most rigorous guidelines for high-performance homes as a part of the U.S. Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home program. EcoWise™ is available now in the Northeastern U.S. for homes built by our Sangerfield, N.Y., manufacturing facility.

EcoWise™ homes are durable, comfortable homes that offer better temperature control, improved air quality, and more efficient water usage. These essential benefits may result in lower costs for buyers to maintain and live in their home.

As our most comprehensive energy efficient offering, EcoWise™ homes come with an abundance of energy efficient features, including ENERGY STAR® rated appliances and fixtures, a tight energy envelope, and energy efficient building components. They’re also designed completely ready for solar panels to be installed.

Buyers can purchase Champion Homes’s EcoWise™ homes from independent manufactured home retailers in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire.

ENERGY STAR® Certified Homes

We’re proud to offer manufactured and modular homes that meet the advanced requirements of the new ENERGY STAR Certification program at 40 of our U.S. manufacturing facilities. Most Champion models have the option to be built to the rigorous energy efficiency standards of the program.

An ENERGY STAR Certified home is the simple choice for energy efficiency. Homeowners save an average of $250 a year in energy bills with an ENERGY STAR home. These homes are 20% more energy efficient on average than typical new homes. That can be a reduction of greenhouse gases by 3,287 lbs. per year, which is the amount of emissions absorbed by planting 39 trees.

You’ll see, feel, and hear the difference with an ENERGY STAR home from Champion. The fully integrated approach to design and construction can give you:

  • Reduced leaks and drafts

  • More consistent temperatures

  • Improved indoor air quality

  • Greater peace of mind

Every ENERGY STAR home from Champion is constructed according to strict standards for energy efficiency, offering you greater durability and comfort.

All Champion ENERGY STAR homes have:

  • High-performance insulation in the walls, floors, and ceilings

  • Energy efficient windows and doors

  • Programmable thermostats

  • High-quality ductwork in the floors and attics

These homes can also include:

  • High-efficiency heating, cooling, and water heater equipment

  • High-efficiency lighting, water fixtures, and appliances
