Transitioning Your Home from Fall to Winter: Simple Design Hacks

November 29, 2024

As the final leaves fade from the trees and frost appears on the grass, we know winter is here! Saying goodbye to autumn and welcoming winter is a great opportunity to give your home a décor refresh in keeping with the season. To help you kick off the start of the chilly months, we pulled together simple ways to update your home’s design inside and out.

1. Start with candles.

What says “winter” more than a cozy candle on a chilly evening? One of the quickest ways to give your space a seasonal refresh is putting a few candles on display in your living room, bedroom, and bathroom. Scents like peppermint, berries, fig, and cedar will bring comfort and warmth to your home. Not a fan of candles? Try a plug-in scent diffuser for a flame-free option.

2. Think winter friendly patio plants.

Although winter can make most of us want to go inside, we can’t forget about the outdoors! If you have a porch, swap out flowers for evergreens that will withstand cold temperatures. Outdoor arrangements featuring assorted greenery, berries, and birch will look beautiful as the snow falls.

3. Use a cool color palette.

Light blue, sage green, and white create an ideal mix of colors that evoke a sense of the cool outdoors. Swap out your throw pillows and kitchen towels for styles in these tones. For an added splash of color, place a potpourri bowl inspired by this palette on your entryway console or nightstand.

4. Don’t be shy with twinkly lights.

Drape a string of white lights across your living room mantle, or place a set of outdoor lanterns on your patio to keep your space bright during long winter nights. An even simpler version is placing mini twinkly lights in Mason jars and showcasing them on your coffee table!
